Board of Directors: Officers & Members


Founder & President - Rosanna F. Hess, RN, DNP
Dr. Hess has 35 years of experience as a registered nurse, almost 20 of them on the African continent.  She has a doctoral degree in nursing and currently teaches nursing research to Masters level nurses at Malone University in Canton, OH.  She has been a principal investigator on numerous research projects.  She has also administered a community health program in Africa.  She lives with her husband Nelson in northeast Ohio.

Vice President – Wayne G. Spronk, MD
Wayne has been board certified in Internal Medicine since 1993. Currently he is a Hospitalist at Champlain Valley Physicians’ Hospital Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY. He served as an Internist at Bongolo Hospital (Gabon, Africa). Wayne, his wife Suzanne and 4 children are serving in West Africa..  He is responsible for developing research projects and seeking grant funds.

Secretary-Treasurer – Margaret Williams
Margaret is an accountant with 31 years experience.  She has worked for several for-profit companies and is now the head of her own accounting company.  She is a certified tax preparer and teaches tax classes. She is also a Notary Public.

Director – Kenneth F. Welsh, P. E.
Ken is a retired mechanical engineer with over 40 years experience at the managerial level.  He served in the U.S. Peace Corps.  Currently the administrative director of a local charity, Ken has served on numerous committees of charitable organizations. He is also the member of Member of the American Society of Professional Engineers.  He lives with his wife Kay, near Akron, Ohio.

Director – Carolyn J. Dunbar 
Carolyn is a lawyer on inactive status. She has served on numerous church committees and works on community projects. She and her husband live in Ohio and have two sons and two daughters. The family lives on a farm with chickens, bees, and a large garden.

Director - Jennifer Jao, MD, MPH
Dr. Jao is a Board Certified physician in infectious diseases, internal medicine, and pediatrics. She works in several African nations, mainly on projects related to HIV/AIDS. She has done teaching and training of staff, clinical restructuring, and consultant work. She works at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY and is an assistant professor of general internal medicine, infectious diseases, and obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive science. Jennifer currently lives with her husband and children in New York. 

Director - Ratchneewan Ross, RN, MSc. (Public Health Nursing), PhD (Nursing)
Dr. Ross is a Fulbright scholar with three decades of experience as a registered nurse, much of it in Thailand. She conducts research among women vulnerable to mental, physical, social, and spiritual distress across cultures, and on HIV/AIDS.  Dr. Ross has taught research methodology and statistics to graduate students in Japan, Thailand, and the USA. At present, she is the Director of International Initiatives at the College of Nursing, Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, USA. She has been a principal investigator/co-principal investigator/co-investigator on numerous research projects. She lives with her husband Jeff and son Joe in northeast Ohio.


David Thompson, MD - Advisor for International Research Studies
David served as a surgeon in Gabon Africa from 1975 - 2012. He has authored several books. David was the founder of the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS), an interdenominational and international organization dedicated to establishing surgical training programs for African surgeons at hospitals across the continent of Africa. David currently lives and works with his wife in north Africa.
